Research Opportunities
Please list to Dr. Priti Parikh for any interest in the following projects:
Dr. Ekeh:
1. Prevalence of THC Among Drivers Who Died in Past 5 Yrs (Study Using Morgue Data)
2. Survey of PTSD in GSW Patients
3. Evaluating Quality of Life and ADL Recovery Following GSWs
Dr. Semon:
1. Lucas Study: needs a new student to write up the results and manuscript (I believe)
2. Repair of One or Two Rib Fractures (ROOT
3. Survey of Hardware Choice for Surgical Stabilization of Rib Fractures (SSRF)
4. Outcomes of Pre-Hospital Tube Thoracostomy (Careflight)
5. Intracranial Pressure Monitor (ICP) QI Project
6. Evaluating Disparities in Surgical Stabilization of Rib Fracture
Dr. Walusimbi
1. Ultrasonic Dissectors vs Clips in Cholecystectomy
2. Blunt Cerebrovascular Injuries
3. Self Extubations in ICU
4. Shock in Acute Trauma Not Attributable to Hemorrhage or Spinal Cord Injury
5. Assessing "Non Preventable Deaths": Are they truly non-preventable
Dr. Miner
1. QI: Nonoperative Spinal Fractures-Prospective
2. QI: Mild TBI protocol, before/after implementation at MVH South
Dr. Bruun:
1. QI: EGS Tube for Acute Cholecystitis
Lost Fractures: Costal Cartilage Injury Multi Center Study w/ Stanford University: We need several highly capable residents to assist in reading chest CT's for costal fractures and a few medical students to transcribe what the residents and Dr. Semon are seeing. Having them would speed up the process. Data due to Stanford by 9/30/2024
ROOT Study (Fractures of One or Two Ribs): Secondary Data Study from the Chest International Injury Database of patients entered with only 1 or 2 rib fractures. The study is primarily descriptive in nature and will focus on identifying patient attributes that led to a surgeon performing Surgical Stabilization of Rib Fractures (SSRF) for only one or two rib fractures.
Intracranial Pressure Monitory Study: Collaborative: This study will look at the frequency of ICP monitoring and also utilize a very brief survey of the surgeons to assess whether & why/why not they implemented ICP monitoring given the patient's condition.
AO Disassociation and Neurological Outcomes
Evaluation of Short versus Extended Duration Antibiotic Therapy on Outcomes in Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infection (DATa-NSTI Trial): This is also a multi-center study.
